Ideas are cheap. Execution is not. AI can help you build faster. It doesn't automatically make you good at deciding what to build.

Ideas are cheap. Execution is not.
In one line: Find a problem real people actually have, then make the smallest thing that meets it.
When you need it
- You have an idea and have not yet spoken to anyone who has the problem.
- The plan has grown to six months before anybody outside sees it.
- You are choosing between building more and showing what already exists.
The common misreading
- What people think
- The hard part is having the idea.
- What is true instead
- Ideas are abundant and getting cheaper to produce. What stays scarce is contact with reality: one real user, one real complaint, one thing shipped small enough that being wrong costs a week instead of a year.
After this area you can describe the smallest version of your idea that a real person could use this week.
The key idea
AI can help you build faster. It doesn't automatically make you good at deciding what to build.
What it teaches
- Finding real problems
- Executing projects
- Building products
- Experimentation
- Customer discovery
- Selling
- Operations
- Iteration
- Resilience
- Learning from failure
Think first
Someone uses AI to build a complete app in a weekend. After a month, it has zero users.
What was probably skipped? What would you have done before building?
The lessons
- Start from a real problem — Talk to real people about what they have actually done before you build. (5 min)
- Ship small, learn fast — Make it small, show it to someone, learn, repeat. (5 min)
Practise: The one-week build
Make something another person can actually use.
- Find one small problem a real person has (ask them).
- Build the smallest thing that helps — a checklist, a spreadsheet, a page, a tool. Use AI to speed it up.
- Give it to them and watch them use it.
- Write what worked, what didn't, and what you would change.

What did you discover when something you made met a real person?
