Future paths

Free — no account needed to read

Sketch three possible futures side by side, and see what each would ask of you.

Imagine three different paths your life could take — they can be very different, or variations on one idea. Then explore what each would require, give and cost, and who you might become.

The questions

  1. Path A — describe it in a line
  2. Path B — describe it in a line
  3. Path C — describe it in a line
  4. For each path: What would it require? · What would it give you? · What would it cost? · What kind of person might you become? — for Path A, Path B, Path C
  5. What stays the same across all of them — what do you value in every version?
  6. One small step to learn more about one of these paths

Afterwards

Turn your answer into one next step, and take it to My Vision Board.

Lessons behind this tool

  • Imagining possible futures — You have more than one possible future. Sketching a few makes the choice clearer. (8 min)
  • Your future self — The person you will be in ten years is closer to a stranger than you think — and worth being kind to. (8 min)
  • Vision vs fantasy — and updating it — A vision you can take one step toward, and change as you learn. (7 min)
