Money Lessons — a free course on how money really works

Free money lessons for everyday life: budgeting, saving, debt, investing basics and the psychology of money.

Free — no account needed to read

Earning, spending, budgeting, saving, debt, investing basics and the psychology behind them, taught in 138 short lessons across 12 worlds. Real-life situations, decision cases and small experiments help you apply each idea to your own money.

Foundations

How money works and how to run it

  • World 1 · Money foundations — Start from zero: what money is and the words it uses. You will understand the basic language of money — what it is, why it has value, and how it moves. (10 lessons)
  • World 4 · Earning money — How money enters your life — and how to grow it. You will understand the forms income takes, what makes earning power grow, and why income alone does not create wealth. (11 lessons)
  • World 5 · Spending & consumption — Why we spend, where it goes, and how to spend on purpose. You will see where your money goes and why, and be able to design a way of spending that reflects what you value. (12 lessons)
  • World 6 · Budgeting & cash flow — How to actually run your money, month to month. You will be able to build a budget that fits your real income, keep it going, and adjust it without feeling like a failure. (11 lessons)
  • World 7 · Saving & financial safety — Buffers, safety nets and the habit of keeping some. You will know why and how to save for different horizons, and how to protect yourself from financial shocks. (10 lessons)
  • World 8 · Debt & borrowing — What borrowing really costs, and how to get out. You will understand how interest and credit work, recognise debt traps, and know the main ways people repay debt. (10 lessons)

Understanding money

What money means to you, and how minds handle it

  • World 2 · Your relationship with money — What money means to you — and where that meaning came from. You will see the feelings and stories that shape your money choices, and treat money as a tool rather than an identity. (10 lessons)
  • World 3 · Money psychology — Why people are not calculators — the biases behind money choices. You will recognise the common mental shortcuts behind money decisions, see them in your own choices, and have ways to work with them. (12 lessons)

Building capability

Investing, and the systems around your money

  • World 9 · Investing & wealth building — Principles, not picks: how investing works and how to think about it. You will understand risk, return, compounding and the main asset classes well enough to judge an investment claim yourself. (16 lessons)
  • World 10 · Taxes, insurance & financial systems — The rules and institutions surrounding your money. You will understand the general ideas behind taxes and insurance, and how banks, central banks and regulators shape the money around you. (12 lessons)

Life & deep thinking

Wealth, work, freedom — and what money is for

  • World 11 · Wealth, work & life — Money as one part of a whole life. You will see how money connects to time, work, family, freedom and society — and start to decide what “enough” means for you. (11 lessons)
  • World 12 · Philosophy of money — The big questions — with several answers, and room to think. You will meet the main ways thinkers have answered money’s big questions, and begin to form your own view. (13 lessons)

How each lesson works

Every lesson has three steps. Learn gives you the idea, why it matters in real life, a realistic example, how people actually behave around it and the mistakes people commonly make. Think asks you a few questions with no right answers. Apply gives you a short exercise to try with your own money.

Worked examples use plain numbers rather than a currency, so they read the same wherever you live. Lessons on tax, investing, insurance and debt say plainly that rules differ by country.

Reference and practice

  • Money glossary — 136 money words explained simply, each with an example.
  • Real-life money situations — What to think about when it actually happens — a first salary, a big purchase, a debt that got out of hand.
  • Decision lab — Money decisions reasoned several ways, with none of them marked as the answer.
  • Money experiments — Small, time-boxed experiments to try with your own spending and saving.
  • Learning paths — Ordered routes through the lessons for a particular need.
  • Ideas about money — Thinkers, books and traditions on money, happiness, work and meaning.
