A portable version
Level: Intermediate · Free — no account needed to read
Create a version of a habit that needs no special place or equipment, tied to a cue that exists everywhere.
Why it may help
Habits depend on context; a portable version keeps the habit going when travel or unusual days remove its usual cues.
When to use it
- Travel
- Weekends and holidays
- Habits that depend on equipment
How to apply it
- Pick a cue that happens anywhere — waking, first drink, brushing teeth.
- Design a version that needs only you.
- Use it whenever the usual setup isn’t available.
An example
Aarav’s portable meditation: five minutes sitting on any bed, after his first glass of water.
The common mistake
Keeping only one version that needs a specific place.
Practise it
Write the portable version of one habit before your next trip.

Problems it helps with
- “The habit works at home but not elsewhere.” — On ordinary days it runs well; on trips, weekends or unusual days it vanishes.
