The big ideas
Most damage is done in moments nobody recognises as decisions — the reply sent immediately, the defence of a position, the going along with the room.
It names four default reactions: emotion, ego, social pressure and inertia, and argues the work is building safeguards rather than resisting them in the moment.
Safeguards are concrete: a rule set in advance, a forced pause, a checklist, or someone whose job is to disagree.
Defining the problem correctly and setting the criteria before seeing the options does most of the work in any decision.
Practise it — no need to have read it
Write one rule for yourself that removes a decision you keep making badly — a waiting period, a default, a person you check with.
A hint: The rule has to be set now, while it costs nothing.
