Turn problems into opportunities worth investigating

Find the gap between what people need and what they have today, then what to learn next.

Step 1: Open Opportunities

In Founder mode, open DISCOVER in the founder sidebar and choose Opportunities. It comes after Problem Discovery: a problem is something people struggle with, an opportunity is a gap worth exploring, and a solution comes later.

Step 2: Explore an opportunity

Press Explore an opportunity, pick the problem it is connected to (or leave it unlinked if it came from a market or technology change), then give the opportunity space a title and say what you see. Who has the problem and what they use today come over from the problem, ready to edit.

Step 3: Describe the gap

In the workspace, write what people need beside what current options provide, and pick the kinds of gap it might be — price, convenience, speed, quality, accessibility, user experience, technology, customer segment, business model, distribution or personalization. For each, note the current option, the need and what makes you think so.

Step 4: Fill in the rest as you learn

Add who might benefit, what people use today and what is missing, why it might matter, why now (Not known yet is fine), the value it could create and possible directions. Directions are not decisions — tap Explore this direction on one only when you want to take it further. Everything saves as you type.

Step 5: Add evidence

Each time you learn something, add an evidence entry: the source, what you observed, who or what it came from and when — and, if it came from one of your research reports, link the report. The page shows whether you have customer, market and competitive evidence, and the linked problem's evidence beside it.

Step 6: List what you need to learn

Keep what you know apart from what you believe and what you don't know, and build a list of questions to answer. Each question shows the research page that could help — Customer Discovery, Market Research, Competitor Intel or Pricing — opened filled in from your opportunity.

Step 7: Follow the next investigation

The page suggests one thing to investigate next from what is still missing — for example, interview 3–5 potential customers, examine the existing alternatives, or research the market.

Step 8: Compare and decide

Compare opportunities side by side. There is no score — you decide. Mark one Worth investigating after reviewing it (your milestone is three), and when you are ready, Committed to validation opens Idea & Problem Validation filled in for you to check and run.
