Form your company — when you are ready

Jurisdiction, structure, founders, name, documents, filing and what comes after. Guidance, never legal advice.

Step 1: Open Company Formation

In Founder mode, open RUN THE COMPANY in the founder sidebar and choose Company Formation. It answers what legal and structural foundation your startup needs and how to set it up — deciding, preparing, filing, setting up and maintaining. It is general guidance, never legal advice, and rules differ by country.

Step 2: Start — or choose not to form yet

The first screen asks only for your founders, where you plan to form and where things stand: idea, pre-launch, generating revenue, already incorporated or changing structure. Your startup does not need to be formally established just because it exists here. Choose I am not ready to form yet and the page helps you decide whether now is the right time, with questions such as whether you are about to take money or sign contracts.

Step 3: Follow the nine steps

The journey is the page's navigation: decide where, choose a structure, prepare founders, prepare company information, prepare documents, file, receive records, set up the company, and maintain. The Overview shows your status, the current step and one to three things to do next — never a long checklist.

Step 4: Read the guide for your jurisdiction

Decide where shows the official authorities, the entity types available, the information usually needed, the typical workflow and common post-formation tasks. Every line says whether it is an official requirement (with its source and the date it was checked), general guidance, your choice, or something that needs professional advice. The United Kingdom and United States guides were checked against official pages; India and Bangladesh name the authorities but are not yet confirmed; for other countries you get the general structures and can add what you find, with its source.

Step 5: Compare structures and record your decision

Choose structure lists the structures side by side — what each generally is, who uses it, ownership, management, admin, fundraising, tax, advantages and trade-offs — against questions you answer, such as whether you expect outside investors. Nothing is ranked or recommended. Mark structures as considering or needing professional advice. Choosing one opens your formation decision record — why you chose it, alternatives, open questions, advice received — which also goes to the Decision Log.

Step 6: Founders, ownership and the co-founder agreement

Prepare founders keeps each founder's role, ownership, contribution and joining date. The split is shown exactly as you entered it; MyFullJourney only adds it up. A discussion workspace covers eleven agreement topics — ownership, roles, decision rights, time, compensation, IP, confidentiality, departure, disagreements, fundraising and deadlocks — each marked agreed, needs discussion, not applicable or needs professional advice. You can copy the split to the Cap Table.

Step 7: Name, company details and documents

Company information keeps the domain, trading name, trademark and registered name apart, and checks a name in order: the registry, the domain, trademarks, public brands, then your decision. Name availability is not the same as trademark clearance. No ID numbers, dates of birth or home addresses are asked for. Prepare documents builds a checklist for your jurisdiction and structure; each document has a stage, and files are stored privately in your Data Room, hidden from investors until you share them.

Step 8: File, then keep the record

File has your own before-filing checklist — when every item is ticked the status reads Ready to file, which reflects your checklist, not a legal check. Record the authority, method, date, reference and status, and attach the confirmation. Receive records holds the formation date, company number, certificate and a timeline of what you recorded.

Step 9: Set up and maintain

Set up the company covers banking, accounting, finance, contracts, IP, tax, insurance, compliance and records, each linked to the page that owns it. Track anything in the Command Center. Maintain holds important dates — what, why, due, source, owner and status — which appear in the Command Center within two weeks of their date, separates one-time formation from ongoing compliance, good practice and professional review, and shows which records investors usually ask about as organised or not. Questions collects what to ask a lawyer, accountant or bank.
